Mullett Lake is the best kept secret in Northern Michigan and we want to share it with you! The lake is 10 miles long, 4 miles wide and contains nearly 17,000 acres. Children and adults will love swimming on this end of the lake with the abundant sandbars, and weed-free shallow waters.
Mullett Lake is also a boat lover’s dream. One of the largest lakes in Michigan, at nearly 17,000 acres, Mullett Lake is ideal for water skiing, tubing, fishing and is connected to many miles of water for exploring several rivers and lakes by boat. The property is located 2.9 miles by road from the nearest public boat launch on the Cheboygan River and 5.2 miles by road to one of the public boat launches located directly on Mullett Lake. Additionally, the lake is part of the Inland Waterway, a 38 mile boating adventure that connects Crooked Lake and Round Lake near the Little Traverse Bay on Lake Michigan across the northern tip of the Lower Peninsula to Cheboygan on Lake Huron. Major river inflows to the lake include the Indian River, that connects nearby Burt Lake, Pigeon River, Little Pigeon River, and Mullett Creek. The Cheboygan River flows out of the northeast end of the lake into Lake Huron. Mullett Lake is an outstanding lake for sportfishing with walleye, rainbow trout, perch, and bass as primary target species. The property includes an offshore anchor point close to the dock.
The cottage includes a washer, dryer, air conditioning units, wall furnace and baseboard heating to ensure your comfort at all times. Four parking spaces are available in the property’s driveway.
The property is a 5-mile drive to downtown Cheboygan. In the downtown area there are local shops and boutiques, the iconic Kingston Theater, Cheboygan Brewing, bars, restaurants, and ice cream shops as well as a library, hospital, post office, and opera house. Some area dining destinations include Mulligans, The Queen’s Head Wine Pub, and Great Lakes Grille among others.
Recreational opportunities are everywhere. Multiple marinas have boat rental options like paddle boards, kayaks, jet skis, and boats available. You can visit Aloha State Park or golf at nearby Cheboygan Golf & Country Club. For guests who enjoy biking and running, a trailhead for the North Eastern State Trail is only a half mile away. This trail connects to the North Central State Trail in Cheboygan and continues to Mackinaw City. Gordon Turner Park on Lake Huron and Cheboygan Pier Lighthouse are located on the north end of downtown Cheboygan.
This gateway to local islands and the Upper Peninsula is a great place to travel even further north. You can take the ferry in downtown Cheboygan to Bois Blanc or visit Mackinac City, just a 22-mile drive from this property. From there you can hop on the Mackinac Island Ferry to visit the island or drive across the Mackinac Bridge to explore Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Just over the bridge is Saint Ignace with the Kewadin Casino and Castle Rock for a beautiful view of the Straits of Mackinac connecting Lakes Michigan and Huron. Other upper peninsula destinations include Sault Ste. Marie (1.25-hour drive), Tahquamenon Falls (1.50-hour drive) and Pictured Rocks (2.50-hour drive) as well as many other destinations.
Petoskey, Harbor Springs and Gaylord are just 45-minute drives away, and offer many opportunities for shopping, dining, golfing and entertainment.
Fall is one of Northern Michigan’s loveliest seasons. Fall colors in this part of Michigan are breathtaking and staying at this property would be a great starting and ending point for day trips to take in the region’s brilliant blanket of fall colors, including along the Trail of Trees near Harbor Springs.
Whether you are seeking relaxation, adventure or a little bit of both, your Mullett Lake Escape awaits!

Other Things to Note
These are older family cottages on Mullett Lake. They are not new nor do they have a bunch of brand new structural updates. However, all functions as it should and cleanliness, maintenance, and repairs will be prioritized.
May 2024 is our deadline to have all new linens, new household amenities where needed, a professional and detailed clean of the cottage. This will be the very first year of the cottage being available for guests access and not just the owners.
I, Jessica not only manage the property but myself and my cleaning crew also strive for a professional clean every single cleaning.
Please note there that there will not be a boat hoist available for guests use. That hoist will be coming out of the water. Pictures will reflect the fact that the hoist will not be provided when the cottage opens in May and we can get updated photos for you.
Please reach out for any further questions and I will be happy to answer.
